UPDATE FROM THE 1ST FUPRE SPORT FIESTA
DIRECTORATE OF SPORT, STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES
FUPRE Sports Fiesta kicked off yesterday with the opening match between the Defending Champion, Petroleum Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering came into limelight by defeating the Almighty Petroleum Engineering with a score-line of two goals to nil. If I were to judge by WWE standards, Mechanical Engineering has a great tendency to be the next champion but the WWE standard does not work in football as another magic happened in the third match.
After the opening match, the next match was pitched featuring Environmental Science against and Electrical-Electronics Engineering (The department that believed that the are the most viable in the FUPRE academic community) but Environmental Science was quick to show them that academic excellence is not an automatic qualification for all-round excellence by defeating them with a score-line of two goals to one goal. One of m man on that pitch was Taidy Christian, whose wonderful saves helped the Environmental Scientist escape a draw and probably a defeat
As if those surprises were not enough, the final match for the day staged Chemistry (One of the football giants of the school), whose footballer show appearance from their various IT placement to represent their department against the one-time weak Marine Engineering. It was full of surprises as the Marine Engineers flooded the whole pitch and refuse to ship in apparatus for the Chemist to successfully operate. The Marine Engineers defeated the Chemists with a score-line of one goal to nil. I love that dazzling MICHAEL (100l, MaE) that frustrated the whole defense of the Chemists.
What shall we fan say then, when the whole matches of the day were full of surprises. We would expect more surprises of course

ONNI, Joseph Yusuf @ 20: A REFLECTIVE AND THANKSGIVING SPEECH
I recall back 2004 holding my Dad’s hand, crying and saying, “Daddy, why won’t you celebrate my 10th Birthday for me?” The memories are still as clear as an event of a fortnight ago when Dad replied with a heavy heart saying, “Son, I don’t have enough to celebrate your birthday maybe when you are 20 years, I will celebrate it for you”. His reply was like a blow to the face of a kid who had attended the birthday of his colleagues. In my toddling mind then, I kept asking myself why I needed to wait for another 10 years to be celebrated but I only knew very little about life. I cried almost throughout 25th of October, 2004. I could see it all over my Dad’s face, sadness for not celebrating his own first son at 10. At Eve, when it was clear that nothing can be done again to celebrate the day, I got over my childishness and ask my father reason for lack of money when necessities arises and he replied saying that life is a function of destiny. I didn’t understand the meaning of what he said but I felt he was probably giving the right reason why he couldn’t celebrate me at 10. As a child, I made up my mind to start saving some money to help my Dad celebrate me at 20. I can remember how I gradually cultivated a saving habit because of my much anticipated 20th birthday.
Today, 25th of October, 2014 is the day that had been much anticipated since few days after my 10th birthday but all on my mind is not how to celebrate but a measure of life’s achievement in the last 20 years. A vivid account reveals that I have wasted 14 years wandering without focus and vision. Those 14 years were like the consumption of rice without salt. They were frustrating and full of hardship without comfort but the last 6 years valid from 22nd of February, 2008 were full of landmarks as many would estimate but yet, I felt that I have not been fulfilled
I won’t forget the year that the Devil advice me that the best way is to make it in life is by stealing. My first operation was to steal a classmate’s candy. What an awkward day of my life! She never reported me to the class teacher but she downloaded the history of my life for me through her lips. She made references to my never retiring school uniform, sandals and bag (Anytime I see her now, I still feel guilty. How I wish I could replace that candy but that event made us two separate being that would not even do more than greetings to each other even after more than a decade of occurrence) and right from that moment, I made up my mind that even if it will cost me my life to never steal again, I will never steal again – A. D. 2000
I remember those years I was a liar because I was been told by an older person that honesty does not pay but thank to “Iya Sadia”, my Jewel whom I owe whatever I am and I’m aspiring to be. Sweet Mother, those marks and pains of the horse-whip transformed my lying tongue to a truthful tongue A.D. 2001 – A.D. 2003
I also recall the year my father told me that I can do anything I want with my life but I should never take strong drinks and cigarette. I was eager to obey to the core because I believed that if I disobey that instruction, my 20th birthday is at risk – A. D. 2005
I remember the year I wanted to stab myself because I was tired of life. All things seem to be against me despite the fact I was one of the good boy you could ever find around. Thank God for the help of a pal who invited me to their church where I gave my life to Christ Jesus. – A. D. 2008
A.D. 2008 – A.D. 2014 were years better off than A.D. 1994 – A.D. 2007. How I wish I met this Saviour earlier. All I am and I will ever be, I owe to the Almighty God through my lovely parent. Praise to the Lord Almighty for the gift of Salvation
Almighty God, what more can I say than to appreciate you for your divine guidance which is, and was, and will keep helping me to model my life according to the lifestyle of your One and Only Begotten Son. Once more I appreciate the Lord for His Spirit that comforts me
On this day, my only promise is Purpose, Mission and Vision Redefined for the next decade. Excellence and Relevance is my watchword
Oh Lord! Thank you for the new exposition. Physics has it that the standards units of measurement are seven (7) in numbers but I am being inspired that six of them are fallacious and the only true standard of measurement is time. All others exist based on the need for men to measure according to a standard and has their basis built on time. The difference between a zygote that was formed 9 months back from 25/10/1994 and a young man on 25/10/2014 is time but the question next is, “Has the days spent worthwhile of the achievements”. It is the time variance that helps man to discover his purpose and prompts him to achieve it in the given time as ordained by the Almighty God, the custodian of great mysteries.
Increase in height, mass, and the rate of purpose achievement are all dependent on time. No wonder the psalmist said, “Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom – Ps. 90:12”

ONNI, Joseph Yusuf: YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE TO BE A FAILURE
One of my favourite quote of all times is by a man named Thomas Edison during his experiment on the light bulb.
He said, 'i have not failed 1000 times but i have only discovered 1000 ways it would not work'. Failure is not when you fall in trying something. Failure is when you fail to try over and over again. After series of experiment, Thomas Edison is widely known for his great works in the discovery of the light bulb. He has made landmarks that has brought his name into history today.
In solving a problem, there are so many challenges you will encounter but problem solvers are those who makes wealth in this present age. Can you imagine how much is made on the sale of light bulb? Let’s do a simple mathematical analysis:
If a street in Lagos State uses 1000 pieces of light bulb at N80 each. How much would an estimated number of 600 streets would use to purchase light bulb?
Can you just imagine how much was made in just a state of the federation?
Now, we have 36 state in the federation:
Life is full of challenges is a favourite quote but those who are still POOR after the challenges are those who pass over opportunity regularly. Activate your mind to start thinking about your mind to start thinking of problems in the world and how you can solve them.
Never think that this is the end for you but rather, it s just the beginning. You that has been known as a total dullard can rise up and become the most brilliant if only you can determine to be so. If you are determined to be a brilliant person, then, you would take no leniency with your studies and put on a right attitude towards your studies.
Let me tap into a little history:
Dyslexia is a condition involving difficulty in reading and spelling.
Thomas Edison(light bulb), Whoopi Goldberg(comedian/actress), Thom Cruise(mission impossible), Walt Disney(cartoonist), Albert Einstein, Richard Branson(virgin incorporated), Samuel L. Jackson(actor) amongst others had dyslexia and they all made an impact in their generation. Theodore Roosevelt was an American President on wheel chair.
Hellen Adams Keller was an American blind, deaf and dumb activist/author. You need not to ask me how she was able to cope with this. She clothe herself with an attitude of possibility and she made a great name for herself even in that situation. She communicate with people by touching their lips when they talk and reply them with her fingers.
Bruce Willix, Tiger Woods(golf) had speech difficulty.
All the people above amongst many other are those who had a great excuse for failure but yet they made impact even more than people that better than them.
My charge to you this day is simple and clear, put on a good and favourable attitude towards whatever you find your hands doing through God Almighty.
Are you a student who finds difficulty in studying personally? Are you a student who finds difficulty in attempting your assignment? I don’t need to tell you the aftermath but my final statement is ''Be a diligent student because to genuinely overcome, one must diligently undergo''.
I love you all.
God bless you all.
Shalom!
He said, 'i have not failed 1000 times but i have only discovered 1000 ways it would not work'. Failure is not when you fall in trying something. Failure is when you fail to try over and over again. 1 street = 1000 x N80
600 streets = a
Through cross multiplication
a= N1000 x 80 x 600 = N48,000,000
Can you just imagine how much was made in just a state of the federation?
Now, we have 36 state in the federation:
N48,000,000 x 36 = N1,728,000,000.

Shalom!

THE GREATEST MISCONCEPTION (FUPRE and not PTI)
THE GREATEST MISCONCEPTION (FUPRE and not PTI)
A very great misconception in our present day in is the assumption that Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun is the same as Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun. Permit me to say that there are only very few similarities between these school but over a million and one differences exist. As a proud FUPRITE, I might not readily accept such an abuse on my dignitized institution any longer. Such abuse include but not limited to assumption of Federal University of Petroleum Resources Students as Petroleum Training Institute Students.
A few years ago during a serious protest by Students of Federal University of Petroleum Resources that lead to the blocking of the East-West Road, Channels Television captured the protest as protest of Students of Petroleum Training Institute (It is a case that worth to be sued but I am not interested in peanuts in place of the rapid development I inquire from the Federal Government of this country). I forgive Channels but I advise that the news should be revisited and proper corrections should be made hastily. Before I begin to spill out my grievances, permit me to give some differences between Federal University of Petroleum Resources and Petroleum Training Institute
1. Federal University of Petroleum Resources is the 1st of its kind in the Africa and 6th of its kind in the World and I think some other schools exists in Nigeria that offer what Petroleum Training Institute offers
2. Federal University of Petroleum Resources offers B.Sc and B.Eng degree while Petroleum Training Institute offers OND and HND.(This indicate no disparity in the degrees offered but just a difference. I am not also a fan to the national craziness about the disparity)
3. Federal University of Petroleum operates on the principle of a university while Petroleum Training Institute operates the principles of an ideal polytechnic
4. Federal University of Petroleum Resources has been established since in 2007 while Petroleum Training Institute has been established a long while ago
5. Federal University of Petroleum Resources has a Vice-Chancellor while Petroleum Training Institute has a principal.
If I keep on mentioning the differences, I will spend the whole day writing and some people readers might assume that some of the items of this article signifies assault to them or their institute but before I proceed, permit me to apologize to your consciences that it is not what you might assume but the Agony of a fellow Nigerian Student
To know more about Federal University of Petroleum Resources, visit www.fupre.edu.ng
It would be injustice for me to drop my pen without charging the major tribes in Delta State, Delta State Government, South-South Geopolitical Zone, Oil Producing States, National Association of Nigerian Students, Federal Republic of Nigeria,Federal Government (Executives, Legislative and Judiciary)
Permit to charge all tribes in Delta States (Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko, Delta-Ibo). Forget about the location of this university, a tussle for it location is worth contesting as necessity for this school to be rapidly developed. It is almost becoming a shame to the whole Delta State that 7 years after the establishment of a school that stands as the 1st of its kind in Africa in the state, its development has continually crawled in the name of tribal sentiments. Sincerely, an appeal from my bleeding heart pours out the oil of peace and concern to all your feet and I fall at your feet to plead to your conscience to make education worthwhile for over 2000 students also comprising of students from these tribes. The task of developing this school is not only for the Urhobos but for all tribes in Delta State. I believe that it should be a form of competition about which tribes contributes the most to the school. I begin to wonder why fellow Urhobos would still have to war themselves because of differences in location. I beseech you all by the mercies of the Almighty God to synergize and lift high, the banner of brotherly love. There is one thing that bind us all together, it is the fact that we are all Nigerians and whatever happens to our nation either good or bad is our own handwork.
Delta State Government, permit me to fault you in some areas. Since the day I stepped into Federal University of Petroleum Resources, I have never seen or heard of any form of grant or visit from the state government. I know the state government might claim that it is not a state school but permit me to say, it is a federal school situated in your state. The fact that it is not residing where the gigantic and wealthy stakeholders of the state emerge from is not a yardstick for neglection. I heard from a political oriented Deltan Students that the Office of the Commissioner for Education in Tertiary Institution exist separately. This is just a confirmation that Delta State cares about Nigerian Institutions but I still remain indecisive about the reason for such a negligence since about 7 years ago. My heart is been stabbed by this singular act and I keep on questioning that if we can be neglected because of some sentiments I seem not to understand, I request for where the unity that brought us together as a state has been lynched to. Delta State Government, I charge you that you arise and fight the course of Justice for your own institution. Permit me to inform you that schools that were established in less than 3 years ago under others states in Nigeria which are not specialized as the one established in Delta State 7 years ago had advanced and gone far in structural development. Then the question is: If we continually neglect what belong to us, who do we hurt? We hurt nobody than ourselves. Time keeps rolling and days are counting, when we will be called upon as stewards to give an account and if we are wanting for any reason, I think a period of 7 years is too much to be tagged "INSUFFICIENT TIME".
Moving around with my crave for who is responsible for the negligence of FUPRE, I will say that the states in the SOUTH-SOUTH Geopolitical Zones are also responsible. You were carved into a Geopolitical Zone because you share something in common and that should be enough for you to synergize together and develop any feature of your zone which does not exist in other zones but my greatest shock is that everybody is concerned about "his own and his own" alone, then my question keeps on reoccuring, what is the essence of the bond we share together without mutual agreement in achieving a goal which is of benefit to our zone?
Oil producing states, are you only existing to get the dividend of extraction from your state? Can't you synergize to fight the course of development of institutions that celebrate your own source of income. I am not speaking out of assumption, but I an saying reality. Check out Universities of Agriculture in Abeokuta and Makurdi to mention a few specialized universities and you might understand better. Is it just about extracting the oil and selling it out in crude form? Can't we just celebrate acquisition of concrete knowledge in this field? I must be sincere, what I need is not token of funds that goes nowhere, I need investments from you that will forever inscribe your efforts in the development of the institution.
One of my all time wonder is the function of the National Association of Nigerian Students. Is it a money generating association or an association established for the agitation of the needs of the Nigerian Students. I am not inviting you into the matter for not coming to disrupt academic practice in the school but what have you forwarded to the Federal Government about the needs of this school. I know quite a number of you have been on visit, it should be an impacting visit that all Nigerian Students should be jealous of and desire such to their institution. I want to assume that this association had not also been infiltrated with men whose concerned is their benefit but even if, I charge you to arise and set to achieve the purpose of your establishment. Disturb the Federal Government to do something about the school.
Finally, I bring it to the lawmakers of this country that it would be a shame for you to make a law for the establishment of a school and the school is yet to be developed after 7 years of establishment. You have done utmostly well to have signed such into law but permit me to ask if you had been following it up. I think it is time we need to arise and do something. Ignorance is not an excuse because awareness might come too late but glory be to the Lord Almighty that it is coming almost late but not late. When you were all sworn into office, you promise to always serve in the interest of sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Now, it is time to defend that promise. For Nigeria to have such a University that emerge as 1st of its kind in Africa and 6th of its kind in the world is a prosperity to our nation which necessity demands that it is been preserved. To the Judiciary arm of our Government, how far have you gone in enforcing the law that was made to the prosperity of the nation you pledge allegiance to? Time might not permit us to discuss at length but you know what to do
To the Executive arm of our government: Before I proceed, let me use this moment to console the Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the havoc being wrecked upon our nation by our own brothers. This moment is also a platform to appeal to the consciences of everyone involved in wrecking this havoc that it will not pay and I want you to also think about how much you have hurt your own brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncle, niece, aunt, nephew, cousin and all manner of family relation. I pray that the mercies of God would avail for you Insha Allah but I won't also fail to charge you to drop your arms and let's build together, our fatherland, Nigeria. I cry aloud, let save Nigeria so that she won't die and the utmost appeal I would make today is to appeal for the release of my sisters whom you have abducted since 5th of April,2014. Mr. President, it is my prayer that the spirit of the Almighty God consoles you (AMEN). Without much
a-do sir, I cease this moment to inform you about the need for immediate structural development in Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun which currently stands as the 1st university which trains students in petroleum related courses in the whole of Africa and the 6th of such in the world. I bring to your notice that its been 7 years that we have been established but even the schools that you signed into law 2011 are more structurally advanced than we are. If you are in doubt sir, a visit would convince you. This time around sir, representative might not suit but personal visit would be the best. Sir, I believe it is a privilege to have a university with such a high dignitary in our country but I also express my amusement that it had not accelerated structurally and at this point, I personally appeal to your sincere conscience that you do something with your power. Not just funds sir, but funds with targeted projects and specification. This school, I believe, is an asset to our nation as it also offer what has been your major source of concern over years in your administration, MARINE ENGINEERING.
I hope that you act fast sir
Thank you in Anticipation
Forever will Remain Yours in the Service of my Fatherland

AN OPEN LETTER TO BORNO STATE GOVERNOR, HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI KASHIM SHETTIMA ON THE NEED TO LEAD THE RESCUE TEAM FOR THE RELEASE OF CHIBOK GIRLS
AN OPEN LETTER TO BORNO STATE GOVERNOR, HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI KASHIM SHETTIMA ON THE NEED TO LEAD THE RESCUE TEAM FOR THE RELEASE OF CHIBOK GIRLS
Your Excellency, with great respect and loyalty to your office (as the Executive Governor of Borno state which hosts the Sambisa Forest and also, the Chibok village from where over 200 students were kidnapped exactly 1O9 days ago), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B hereby calls on you alongside the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Namadi Sambo and the Northern opinion leaders, Northern Elders Forum (NEF) especially Professor Ango Abdullahi, having noticed the delay in the rescue of our innocent sisters, to lead the rescue team to the Sambisa Forest and secure the release of our fellow students
Sir, do not feel that our call is an abuse to your personality or your office, it is just a demand that might solve the immediate challenge faced by the nation-at-large in rescuing our fellow students. Sir, in order to assure you that the efforts from you and other aforementioned dignitaries is essential, let's ride through the roller-coaster of history which I'm sure would convince you that your effort in leading the rescue team to secure the release of our fellow students is of immediate and paramount importance:
Sir, some few years ago when over 3O Philippines were abducted by the then Niger-Delta Militants, it was recorded that the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and other opinion leaders in the Niger-Delta, including the leader of the South-South people, Pa E.K. Clark were all in the creek for days to secure the release of the abducted foreigners which was successful.
Your Excellency Sir, it should also be noted that during the peak of the Niger-Delta Militancy, when the country was crippled economically, it was President Goodluck Jonathan, the then Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that led the team to Niger-Delta Creek for successful disarment of the Niger-Delta Militants
On this note, the National Association of Nigerian Students call on you sir in company of the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Namadi Sambo and other opinion leaders as stated earlier to lead the rescue team to Sambisa Forest to bring our sisters back home.
Sir, you recently acknowledged unequivocally that you know where these girl are. With this claim and also a knowledge of the terrain and way of life of the people in the terrain, we urge you to take immediate step alongside those recommended for you to rescue the girls and also put an end to the high level of insurgency in the nation-at-large as this would indicate your faithfulness to the lines of the oath of office you took wherein you promised to always serve in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, well-being and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank You Sir
